Calligraphy Insular pointed miniscule

Insular pointed miniscule

Originating in the sixth century in Ireland this was quickly adapted in mainland britain and by the ninth century was the most favoured anglo - saxon hand. It took different forms. The two most common being the square and the pointed miniscule. The distinctive pointed aspect is created by twisting the pen to the near vertical on the long descenders.
